Final Video Story

For this final video story assignment, I chose to make some specific design choices that I felt would impact my audience reached. The audience I am trying to reach here is for the most part women between the ages of sixteen and fifty so I decided to go with a simple and timeless design that would be easy for all members of my audience to comprehend. I also chose to make the video about eyelash care because I think this is something that is often overlooked. I am excited about the idea of choosing the most important after-care tactics for eyelash extensions in a short and easy video. The reason I chose to use the color pink is because having eyelash extensions is really girly and pink is a girly color so I felt that the conscious decision to choose a color with the same type of vibe would be a good artistic choice.

One thing I decided pay close attention to was my transitions. Premiere pro offers a variety of different graphics and transition effects that make it easy to choose a perfect transition graphic for that particular part of the video. For the first set of words I chose to make them bold and pop when the letters came up on the first screen of the video. I also chose to make the voice talking in the background of the video slowly get louder for effect to make the listener listen a little bit closer. I had to brighten the videos of ruby and grace brushing their eyelashes and taking off their make up because the lighting of the room I filmed in was a little bit dark. Those were a couple of the changes that I had made to the video and I hope you enjoy it overall!.

Audio Final

For this project I decided to focus my audio piece on why people don’t like eyelash extensions and what their big concerns are about them. I really tried to think about the most common questions and concerns I get when it comes to eyelash extensions, and I was able to pick out twoissues that most people face and it just so happened that those were the two issues that my roommates were also most concerned about when it comes to getting eyelash extensions. One of my roommates was really concerned about the finances behind the upkeep of having eyelash extensions and the other was concerned that the eyelash extension would ruin her natural eyelash.

I listened to some of the example audios that we got and I liked going the route of journalism news report because I was able to take something simple like eyelash extensions and make it sound exciting by using certain language and music. You were definitely correct when you said that the key to this project would be to having good content in the first place and not necessarily the editing process. I think I liked this particular project the most out of the ones that we have done so far because I felt the least technologically challenged because I was able to start with a good foundation by having good content before trying to edit it.

At first I thought that this was going to be a really difficult and technologically challenging project for me because audition looks a bit intimidating when you first look at the screen but it actually tends to be easier for me because I am able to see the sound waves on the screen it’s like a visual learners dream we get to see what we can hear. I enjoyed using tools of audition and learning different techniques such as the fade in and fade out tool and how to alter the volume of a sound wave on audition. I also really enjoyed learning how to use different clips of sound and cut them together to make it sound like they all flow well, these are the things that I tried to incorporate in my final audition project.

Graphic Design Project Final Draft

For this graphic design project, I decided to go the route of a magazine ad for eyelash extensions by me. To gain inspiration for this project I wanted to look at some other magazine ads for beauty products and they all seemed to be very busy looking and kind of distracted me from what I was being sold by the ad, so I decided to go with a sophisticated and simpler look to offset that I felt that way when looking at most beauty ads. The reason I decided to go with a more sophisticated look for my ad is because the audience I would want to attract are sophisticated women between the ages of about sixteen and about fifty. I found that it was quite hard for me to find a real photo of eyelash extensions that ended up looking good with the element of text and other elements of the ad, so I decided to find a photo of a drawing of eyelash extensions instead because I felt that it better depicted what eyelash extensions are and how they actually look. The drawing I used was from a website for eyelash extension training from www.hercampus.com/school/uncw/eyelash-extensions-are-they-worth-it. I used the clone tool to clone the closed eye from the original picture onto a pink background which I think still looks really sophsticated but ads a little bit of color as well. I really liked finding different ways to manipulate the text that I used in the ad and decided to inversely arc the text so that it complements the drawing of the eyelashes as it hugs the bottom of the drawing. I also used the burn tool to make the eyelashes and eyebrows have better contrast so that that part of the image would stand out more as well as a few other things that I learned in photo shop. I ended up being able to add some color and change it up a bit from my original project so I am happy with how it came out.

Although I like how sophisticated the ad is, I believe it is a bit too simple, I would like to find a way to add just enough color and texture so that the ad still grabs the eye yet does not bring down the sophistication of the ad. Hope you like it!

About:

My name is Clarisa Oliveira and I am a sophomore here at Washington State University. I grew up in Bellevue, WA watching the city grow as I did. I am using this blog as an opportunity to showcase the eyelash extensions that I do for my peers here at Washington State! I have been doing eyelash extensions for about 6 months now and am hoping to get certified soon. There is a lot of aspects that go into eyelash extensions so I am hoping to show some of the cool things that my job entails.

I have always been extremely interested in the beauty industry and have been exploring the beauty world since I was a little kid. I have always been the friend that knows how to braid and alwasy did everyone’s make up for school dances in high school, so it is fun for me to get to do some of those beauty things for real now! I also think it would be really cool to get to do something beauty related for my job in the future, my ideal situation would be to pursue a career in the business of beauty. I would like to start my own salon someday but I would like to have a salon that offers all services so people dont have to go multiple different places for different services.
